The California Regional Water Quality
Control Board-Los Angeles Region heard updates from health impact study
under Item 16 which had been prepared by the L.A. County Health
Department and an investigation by L.A. City Councilman Greig Smith's
office that concerns sewer discharges by Browning-Ferris Industries.
(These were informational items only. There were no votes on these
items. )
Item 17 was for the consideration of a tentative Section 401 Water
Quality Certification
(for dredge and fill activities) for the expansion of the Sunshine
Canyon
Landfill. The Board ended up adopting the 401 Water Quality
Certification for Sunshine Canyon Landfill with minor modifications and
a condition that calls for BFI to create/restore wetlands of
approximately 2 acres in Bull Creek behind the Knollwood shopping area.
A proposed limitation of $100,000 and a 1-year limit for expenditure was
removed.
